Research abstract

In response to Navy SBIR solicitation N241-057, entitled “Networking Platform for Real-time Communication of Personnel Health Status and Location during Shipboard Emergencies”, Triton Systems plans to develop or integrate physiological sensors, worn by disaster control personnel within a compromised compartment, communications means to send these physiological data and verbal communications to and with incident command center personnel.  In particular, Triton is assuming a “worst case” scenario whereby all communications infrastructure within a compromised compartment (e.g., leaky coax, Wi-Fi) is not available to the disaster team.  With this assumption, Triton is planning to develop means to use bi-directional amplifiers and ribbon coax to communicate through compartment bulkheads to operational Wi-Fi capability. In SBIR Phase 1, Triton plans to analysis environmental constraints of shipboard emergencies and design a networking system to provides robust data transmission and voice communications from distressed areas of a ship to command node(s) in the ship.  Such networking to utilize existing shipboard infrastructure, as possible, and to improvise where such shipboard infrastructure is not available.  Triton plans to assemble an engineering prototype to demonstrate network feasibility and viability in simulated compromised shipboard areas. In SBIR Phase I Option, Triton plans to continue engineering evaluation of the network engineering prototype, identify and correct anomalies in system design or operation and develop and review a SBIR Phase II Plan.  Throughout Phase I (Base and Option), Triton plans to identify and work with a transition partner to realize Triton’s technology at the conclusion of Phase II, or successive, efforts In SBIR Phase II, Triton plans to develop a robust prototype that, after extensive evaluation, could be evaluated by the customer in disaster training exercises to further evaluate Triton’s technology in near-real world environment(s).  Triton plans to work with the TPOC and interested stakeholders to identify and correct any anomalies discovered during extensive evaluations. In SBIR Phase III (Transition to Commercialization), Triton and its transition partner plan to develop the market and product for military and commercial sales.
