Research abstract

REscan proposes to develop an AI-driven 3D reality capture solution to enhance facility management, emergency response, and mission planning at large Air Force installations. Building on advanced scanning technologies, REscan will digitize up to 750,000 square feet at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), generating high-resolution 3D models that can be accessed on desktop or mobile devices. This effort integrates volumetric analysis, text-based search, and automatic object recognition, enabling personnel to rapidly locate critical assets, plan evacuation routes, and evaluate facility readiness. A key objective is to seamlessly integrate these 3D models with Virtual Reality Tactical Assault Kit (VR-TAK), ensuring low-latency streaming for real-time collaboration and improved situational awareness. By uniting AI analytics with accurate, up-to-date facility scans, the proposed solution will reduce manual processes, accelerate pre-incident planning, and bolster operational resilience. Ultimately, this effort supports the Department of the Air Force’s goal of resilient basing, delivering measurable benefits such as faster emergency response and optimized infrastructure management across WPAFB and beyond.
