Research abstract

Current Navy flight simulators rely on two-dimensional (2D) displays, which lack the stereoscopic depth cues necessary for accurate pilot training and spatial awareness. Holochip's solution aims to develop an autostereoscopic flight simulator display system that provides realistic depth perception without the need for stereoscopic eyewear. By leveraging advanced optics and human-machine interface technologies, the system will offer true 3D visualization, enabling pilots to accurately perceive depth, velocity, and object positioning in critical tasks such as aerial refueling (AAR), formation flying, air-to-air engagements, and carrier landings. The system will meet or exceed current simulator display standards, achieving minimum 20/20 visual acuity, 120 Hz refresh rate, and high luminance performance. It will also be integrated into high-fidelity cockpit simulators across multiple aircraft platforms, ensuring seamless adoption in Navy training programs. This innovation will enhance training realism, reduce negative transfer of training effects, and improve overall mission readiness.
