Research abstract

Odys Aviation Inc.’s (Odys) Laila hybrid-electric VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft aims to address the Navy’s critical ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore logistics challenges by providing a versatile and efficient solution for contested maritime environments. Laila's hybrid-electric propulsion system and advanced autonomy minimize infrastructure requirements, enhancing operational flexibility. The aircraft will be adapted to support Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) missions, including cargo transport between an Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) and Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), even in the absence of a helipad. The proposed Phase II effort focuses on modifying Laila’s sensor and avionics system, autonomy stack, and communication systems to meet Navy-specific requirements.
