Research abstract

Cornerstone Research Group, Inc. (CRG) proposes the Multi-Spectral Electromagnetic Target Silhouette (METS) system for advanced live fire testing, integrating a sophisticated computer-controlled Multiple Input/Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna array with a highly reflective EM reflector. This innovative solution projects electromagnetic emissions of various combat vehicles across the radio spectrum. This includes infrared (thermal) and electronic emissions below the high frequency band (HF) and into the Ka-band. This significantly reduces costs compared to integrating EM sources into destructible targets. The MIMO array transmits signals to the EM reflector, which then projects the EM Target Silhouette towards warfighters, enabling realistic combat identification training in diverse scenarios. The system's active feedback capability allows for software-controlled responses such as Identification Friend/Foe (IFF) simulations, enhancing training fidelity. METS aligns with the Army Modernization Strategy, offering versatile, cost-effective training scenarios that enhance combat readiness and support the "train as you fight" philosophy. By leveraging existing Stationary Armor Targets and enabling modular, realistic training environments, METS significantly advances the Army's ability to prepare for modern warfare challenges.
