Research abstract

The Nighttime Reconnaissance and Awareness System (NRAS) addresses the Department of the Air Force's (DAF) urgent need for advanced night vision capabilities in Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) operations, particularly when deployed in austere environments. Current night vision systems suffer from limitations in low visibility conditions, are too costly for attritable platforms, and lack the portability required for modern field operations. Additionally, they fail to meet the demands of interoperability and real-time data sharing crucial to contemporary missions. NRAS seeks to overcome these challenges by integrating cutting-edge night vision technology with seamless interoperability and real-time situational awareness capabilities. The system will utilize a night vision camera payload developed by Deepnight, capable of enhancing visibility in extreme low-light conditions. This payload will be integrated into Picogrid's mature, TRL-9 commercial platform, leveraging proven technologies to ensure reliable, portable, and scalable ISR solutions for the DAF.
