Research abstract

In this SBIR, Caliola is developing a navigational warfare (NAVWAR) situational awareness (SA) tool that identifies GPS threats in near real-time using GPNTS input and output messages. Our architecture does not rely on machine learning methodologies. Instead, we apply a Generalized Likelihood Radio Test (GLRT) to compare the location tracks produced by GPS and alternate PNT sensors (APS) such as the Automated Celestial Navigation System (ACNS) and our own SCAPP solution. In parallel, metadata from GPNTS output messages are analyzed to ascertain the confidence that the Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) and GPNTS have in the GPS measurements. When our tool identifies spoofing that is not detected by the MGUE, GPNTS is directed to instead discipline the shipboard inertial navigation system with the best available APS. In this Phase II effort, we will evolve and validate our tool through a series of increasingly sophisticated maritime demonstrations.
