Research abstract

BRELYON Ultra Reality Extend (URE) offers immersive multifocal visualizations for enhanced situational awareness while simultaneously reducing SWaP 10X. URE represents a new display category, far more immersive that multimonitor “legacy” display systems and without the uncomfortable constraints of headsets. Aligned with the medical profession’s prescriptions for screen time, URE promotes ocular health and situational wellness, both of which enhance the warfighter’s decision-making capabilities. Further, URE is backwards compatible with existing content and hardware (e.g., with standard DisplayPort input), SO it is a modular solution and amenable to modular open systems architecture (MOSA) and standard COTS sensors/user inputs. The U.S. Army will benefit from URE’s reduced SWaP and enhanced SA by amplifying indirect vision, especially in space-constrained or mobile environments, as in armored vehicles. Phase I will coordinate with end users to determine application-specific parameters, design a modified URE system (advancing it from TRL 3 to TRL 4), and design and perform a situational awareness (SA) to demonstrate SA enhancement. In a Phase I OPTION, BRELYON will further examine ruggedization feasibility and modular requirements to drive Phase II.
