Research abstract

AndrenaM seeks to develop subsea monitoring defense networks to rapidly identify surface or subsurface threats or anomalies and engage them with autonomous drone systems. Our systems will act as the first lines of notification and defense for the US strategic assets and territories. We seek to integrate the capabilities of high-speed, low-latency satellite bus systems, high-sensitivity hydrophone arrays, and advanced predictive algorithms to detect, notify, and engage targets before they become serious threats. AndrenaM wishes to revamp the functionality of existing hydro-acoustic monitoring systems through the use of low power, modular acoustic systems that can be deployed rapidly around the globe in locations of interest. Coupled with low-latency satellite communications systems, our acoustic platforms will create listening networks to provide situational awareness to central command centers as well as surface and subsea maritime assets.  Paired with advanced drone systems, synonymous to recent technical innovations inland-based battlefields, we seek to integrate our acoustic data to an AI-based platform that will enable commanding officers to initiate preemptive and autonomous swarm engagements without the deployment of high-value naval assets.   AndrenaM’s platforms will be composed of three independent systems that will work in unison to provide informed data to our end customers.  HydraOS: The software platform, functioning as the brain of the network. This is an operating system that will utilize various raw sensor data for detection modeling and will provide real time monitoring for perceived threats using AI and edge computing. The system will leverage continuous deployment to integrate the latest software technologies. It will also consist of intuitive dashboards to monitor real time data. Customers will be able to extend the system for their use case through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).  Sirens: A modular hydrophone system that will have the capability to be rapidly deployed and linked to satellite communications. Sirens may be deployed in clusters around the world and will generate a surveillance grid in subsea areas of deployment. These systems will feed acoustic information to the Software Platform. Arista: Autonomous subsurface and surface swarm drones that will be deployed to intercept targets within the range of Sirens. Information parsed in HydraOS will provide situational awareness for strategic Arista. These systems will act as loitering autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) with payload-carrying capabilities.  Please note, the completion of the first two points above will be the primary focus of this Phase I SBIR. Further development and Phase II SBIR funding will be needed in order to complete our third product, Arista, along with its integration within the software systems.
