Research abstract

For this Phase II SBIR project, Vcom3D will research and develop a modular Mixed Reality (MR) Extreme Cold Simulation Trainer for Medic Education (ECSTREME). The system will build on available Modular Healthcare Simulation and Education System (MoHSES) open standards, interoperable modules, and open-source resources. We will demonstrate and evaluate an ECSTREME system thatĀincludes each of the following: A high-performance, MoHSES-compliant trauma manikin with an accurate simulation of Massive bleeding, Airway, Respiration,ĀCirculation, and Hypothermia/Head wound injuries and interventions. It will also includeĀinterchangeable limb modules exhibiting frostbite and multi-trauma. An advanced, open-source physiological simulation of hypothermia, hypoperfusion, and acidosis. A virtual patient and virtual equipment. At least three patient scenarios that include cold-related injuries. The ECSTREME system will be demonstrated and evaluated in relevant Arctic of Extreme ColdĀEnvironments (AoECE), such as Arctic Edge Below Zero Medicine (BZM). Ā
