Research abstract

The challenge lies in ensuring uninterrupted, reliable, and secure data transfer during critical operations, especially in contested or austere environments. In the evolving operational landscape, the DAF confronts intensifying threats from adversaries proficient in electronic warfare and cyber operations. Jamming, deception, and interference are actively employed tactics aimed at disrupting the U.S. military's communication and sensor networks. For units like the 23 STS, which are pivotal in integrating and synchronizing air and space power in the objective area, such disruptions can jeopardize mission success and personnel safety. This communication vulnerability impacts several Operational Imperatives of the DAF: Operationally Focused Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS): A disrupted communication link undermines the integration of sensors, weapon systems, and communication networks, essential for a responsive ABMS. Moving Target Engagement: Real-time detection, tracking, and engagement capabilities are at risk when data transfer faces potential interruptions. Tactical Air Dominance: Maintaining air superiority becomes increasingly challenging in environments where communication and data integration can be compromised. Resilient Basing: The ability to ensure consistent communication and data flow, especially in remote or compromised bases, is crucial for mission success. Readiness to Deploy and Fight: With the ever-present threat of electronic warfare tactics, the readiness of units like the 23 STS to deploy swiftly and engage effectively is paramount. To fully support the 23 STS and the overarching DAF mission, a solution is imperative that ensures consistent, high-speed, and secure data transfer. This solution should mitigate the risks of jamming and deception, alleviate the intricacies of multi-system integration, and provide a dependable alternative to satellite links, particularly in austere and challenging terrains.
