Research abstract

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) seeks to develop a technology that prevents infected and traumatized combat wounds on service members from becoming septic during extended tactical operations in austere environments. Critical Innovations and subcontractors NDA Partners, with consultants Gary Fong, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP, Loren Miller, MD, MPH, Captain David Tanen, MD, FAAEM, FACMT (USN, Ret.), and, former Commander Denise Whitfield, MD, FACEP have formed a team of medical technology experts to address this important medical need. During this Sequential Phase II project, our objectives will be to further advance the innovative SuccorÖ Combat Foam for Advanced Wound Care of Traumatized Tissue product. SuccorÖ is a novel, easy-to-use, self-setting hydrogel wound dressing for far forward care of traumatic wounds to prevent sepsis and treat local infection, while preserving tissue viability and promoting healing in austere environments and during prolonged field care (PFC). Sequential Phase II technical objectives include: 1) On-boarding of program-specific requirements, goals, and schedule; 2) Further regulatory preparation; 3) Clinical study planning; 4) Maintaining all program-specific regulatory compliance requirements while preparing for upcoming regulatory and transition hurdles.
