Research abstract

Lunar ResourcesĀproposes the ōDisablement of Smart Mines Over Large Areasö (DISMOLA) SBIR Phase II project to the US Army (USA), a follow-on to the developments of LUNARÆs Phase I project to mature and demonstrate the DISMOLA munition. Overcoming enemy-emplaced obstacles and ensuring battlefield mobility are vital tasks for United States forces, particularly in the face of landmine-laden areas. As observed in recent events in Ukraine, landmines can be swiftly deployed via aircraft, artillery and machinery, forming extensive minefields containing various types of mines. These minefields, comprising both surface-laid and buried anti-vehicle and anti-personnel mines, present a considerable threat to troops. Conventional breaching methods are typically slow, time-consuming, and perilous, putting lives at risk. DISMOLA offers a revolutionary munition that can be integrated into various delivery platforms and capable of disabling smart mines across entire minefields, enabling rapid and safe breaching of large areas during combat operations.
