Research abstract

In this Phase I program, AlphacoreÆs approach will commence with the design, construction, and testing of a cutting-edge image sensor and camera system. This system will feature a resolution of at least 2040 x 1100 pixels, with the final specifications to be refined during Phase I. The sensor will boast a pixel pitch of 5 Ąm, and Alphacore aims to achieve an impressive full-frame rate of at least 500 frames per second (fps), with an aspirational target of 1,000 fps. A core focus of our development will be on minimizing the power consumption of the readout integrated circuit (ROIC) to reduce the overall cooling power requirements, while not compromising on high sensitivity. The ROIC will aim for a well depth of 1.8 x 10^6 electrons and a noise floor below 150 ĄV, capable of detecting a minimum temperature difference of 35 mK. A crucial aspect of the program is to achieve an ultra-wide bandpass that spans from the Near Infrared (NIR) to the Mid-Wave Infrared (MWIR) spectrum, covering wavelengths from 0.7 to 5.5 micrometers. To realize this ambitious ultra-broadband NIR-MWIR capability, Alphacore is partnering with leading detector supplier in the United States. This partnership will leverage Strained-Layer Superlattice (SLS) detectors, which are critical for enabling the targeted wide spectral range. This strategic collaboration underscores Alphacore's commitment to pioneering solutions that meet the complex needs of military and defense applications, highlighting expertise and innovative approach to advanced imaging technology.
