Research abstract

Natrion's project aims to de-risk and validate the feasibility of using solid-state Li-metal batteries (SSLMBs) enabled by the companyÆs proprietary new LISIC technology for the AgilePod. The proposed effort focuses on achieving high energy density, rapid charging capabilities, uncompromisable safety and durability, and resilient versatility through: Cell Stack Model Optimization: Enhancing cell stack models to optimize electrode characteristics and mechanical properties, ensuring specific energy and shape-changing capabilityĀrequirements areĀmet; Battery Electrode Coating Validation: Testing new flexible electrode coatings to verify charge/discharge rates, cycle life, and energy capacity; Cell Casing Solution Assessment: Evaluating cell casings' shape manipulation effects on integrity and exploring alternatives for improved mechanical connections; Safety and Reliability Testing: Assessing LISIC-based SSLMB cells' low-temperature performance and establishing rigorous testing protocols for operational safety and reliability; Thermal Management Integration: Collaborating with EC Power to develop models for LISIC-based SSLMBs with enhanced cold temperature performance and optimized energy density;Ā Advanced Material Development: Investigating next-generation materials, like the X-12 carbon nanomaterial substrate, to reduce mass and interfacial resistivity, further increasing energy density and charging speed;Ā Stakeholder Collaboration and SWaP-C Optimization: Engaging with stakeholders to validate miniaturization and optimization in size, weight, power, and cost; and Scalable Manufacturing and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring production and compliance with military and aviation standards for safe deployment.
