Research abstract

Alphacore proposes to transition its commercially successful, high bandwidth chiplet I/O technology to critical defense applications. Chiplets are integrated circuits delivered in  a format that allows them to be used to form integrate systems when placed immediately next to each other on low-parasitics interposers and organic substrates. This development will be a key enabler for the DoD and the Space Force to rapidly catch up with the commercial sector in chiplet technology: the defense-optimized, USA based Chiplet Interface IP. Every chiplet needs this type of IP embedded within. As there is also a critical need for use in harsh environments, the Chiplet Interface IP will also be radiation-hardened.  Alphacore’s team has completed several high-performance I/O interface designs for commercial customers from demanding market sectors such as automotive, high-speed communication and aerospace & defense. The proposed program will strongly leverage the successful related work the team has accomplished. Our research institution partner, ASU, is part of the Southwest Advanced Prototyping Hub, who are already developing US-based manufacturing capabilities aligned with chiplet technology.
