Research abstract
Perfusion Medical is developing a new intravenous solution for the treatment of hemorrhagic shock that was developed with over $12M in U.S. Army funding at Virginia Commonwealth University. Shock is a common medical response to severe blood loss (hemorrhage) and must be treated within minutes of trauma by blood transfusion – if not, the body will begin cutting off circulation in the capillaries, preventing absorption of oxygen to the cells, ultimately leading to tissue death. Perfusion Medical’s PM-208 product will be the first drug to specifically address this inflammation and circulatory impairment associated with hemorrhagic shock that makes survival rates plummet even with the administration of whole blood transfusions, thereby extending trauma care’s “golden hour” in the “golden day” to save lives and limbs. ???????
