Research abstract

Frontier Audio Labs technology will provide the worldÆs first hearing protection earbud integrated with active noise reduction and neural health sensors, greatly improving comfort, mobility, and readiness while reducing hearing damage. Through the companyÆs proprietary audio system and digital signal processing technologies, the TE-NSANR will provide 10X the noise reduction of current popular solutions alongside best-in-class spatial awareness and traditional radio and hear-through functionality of hearing protection devices. Being 90% smaller than over the ear hearing protection while also providing critical sensor data including on focus, fatigue, and heart rate, the TE-NSANR would enableĀthe Airmen of the future. This SBIR P1 effort will validate the ability of Frontier Audio LabsÆ to adapt its industrial earbuds in early developmentĀ(ISNRE) into the TE-NSANR for Air Force tactical and flight line end-users, as well as many other warfighters across the DoD. The proposed effort will prove defense need, inform capabilities/specifications that are needed by Airmen before scaling dual use commercialization, and allow exploration of adapting the hardware into an earbud form factor accepted by USAF end-users and the signal processing for theĀUSAF environment.
