Research abstract

The USAF recognizes the need for flexibility and resilience in the face of rapid global shifts and evolving near-peer adversaries that demand rapid response and distributed operations. According to USAF Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Q Brown Jr., “the battlefield of the future will require rapid and constant movement and the ability to remain small and relatively invisible just to survive.” The USAF Security Forces and Logistics Readiness face significant challenges swiftly implementing the technologies required to meet these goals, including relying on outdated transportation and equipment that adds unnecessary cost and complexity, and are insufficient to meet the requirements of future deployments. The USAF continually seeks innovative solutions to optimize its Security Force and Logistics Readiness operational effectiveness while minimizing environmental impact and resource expenditure. The Fleet Cycles Personal Electric Mobility Vehicle (PEM-V) is an electric cargo bike that aligns with the USAF strategic goal of being more resilient, flexible and nimble on the forward edge. The PEM-V is an alternative to traditional vehicles for many security tasks, providing increased agility, maneuverability, and accessibility in diverse and rugged operational environments. Current equipment is deficient in supporting operations in ACE environments due to their size, cost, and inflexibility.
