Research abstract

The US has a vital national interest to rapidly develop, test, and deploy advanced swarm UAS capabilities as near-peer adversaries are already fielding technologies that challenge our own. The race to develop and deploy swarm UAS is a critical aspect of modern military strategy, as these systems offer unprecedented capabilities for surveillance, reconnaissance, and combat operations. To regain the US’ strategic advantage over its near-peer competitors, adoption of advanced modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) capabilities are needed to accelerate development and fielding of bleeding edge swarm UAS platforms and system upgrades. Current USAF tools are siloed and labor intensive, requiring investment to advance digital twin platforms that can integrate exceptionally complex subsystems (e.g., controls, sensing, actuation, and propulsion), rapidly explore the trade space, and enable mission utility assessments.  Sedaro Corporation (Sedaro) is a digital twin software company focused on leveraging modern software frameworks and cloud computing to deliver a leap forward in the evolution of system simulation tools. Sedaro is currently delivering this leap forward to the USSF, Space Development Agency (SDA), NASA and commercial customers with the Sedaro platform, a TRL-9 simulation and virtualization suite that is more scalable, collaborative, and interoperable than competitive products. As such, Sedaro seeks to enhance the USAF’s digital engineering toolset by using our core technology as the building block to develop Sedaro Swarm UAS. This feature set will enable integration of digital twins with the USAF’s tech stack for more responsive and effective procurement, planning, testing, and operations.
