Research abstract

The ability to engage targets quickly and effectively from short to medium range during day and night conditions is an essential function for assaulters on the modern battlefield.  While many existing sighting solutions provide various levels of capability in either day and/or night, few offer the ability to engage targets using head-borne night vision goggles (NVGs) with reflex/red-dot sights plus thermal imaging capability.  The objective of this Phase I SBIR effort is to complete key enabling trade studies to define the components and architecture for an innovative Thermal Reflex Sight that can be developed in a Phase II follow-on which will allow the user to engage targets over the widest possible range of close to mid-range engagement scenarios in various lighting and environment conditions.
