Research abstract

Non-magnified reflex sights have been and continue to be an essential tool for rapid target acquisition and engagement in close-to-medium quarters operations on the battlefield. Various reflex-style sights have been developed over the years, including prism-based (etched reticle), red-dot, and holographic, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. While the most basic implementation of a reflex sight, the red-dot sight (RDS), is simple, low power, and reliable, all implementations require mechanisms and adjusters to set and maintain boresight. These mechanisms require careful material selection, design, and assembly to maintain zero when exposed to shock and temperature. Furthermore, traditional reflex sights are limited in terms of options for varying shape/color reticles. Prism and holographic reflex sights by nature of their design have fixed reticle shapes (and in the case of holographic, color). While there are “red-dot” sights on the market that change color and/or reticle shape, they are typically limited to poorly constructed commercial offerings which have problems with through-scene color shift and/or boresight stability when switching reticle patterns. Envision’s DP-CQS evolves the reflex sight for the modern battlefield by introducing a digital electronic projector to generate the reticle, which addresses significant limitations common in reflex sights. Anticipated.
