Research abstract

This work will leverage the concepts of fault-detection from system modeling to identify mission vulnerabilities and robustly evaluate how the inclusion of a space-layer changes kill-web performance within a mission simulation. The team will use the government owned simulation tool: The Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM). Additionally, the team will use SysML for platform definition and CAMEO, along with other external tools, for process and simulation control. Leveraging this software, the team will develop a complete toolset to encompass the analysis process that will diagnose specific moments within a scenario where vulnerabilities in the kill-web occur. In the scope of a mission, a vulnerability is a negative event such as: loss of an asset, a failed sensor detection, an un-received message, or any other event which diverted the progression of the scenario towards failure. This post-processing analysis is enabled by the development of a novel technique for extracting, organizing, and clustering mission-level data. The process as a whole will provide unprecedented fidelity on the specific moments within a scenario where system design decisions had an impact. In the case of a space-enabled kill-web, the inclusion of the space layer should reduce occurrences of vulnerabilities and critical moments while highlighting them in an understandable way that enables decisions.
