Research abstract

BetaFlix, a leader in digital learning, introduces the XR Dental Simulator, a cutting-edge solution addressing the challenges in post-dental residency and auxiliary training programs for the Air Force Dental Services (AFDS). The traditional approach to dental education faces significant hurdles, such as inconsistent training opportunities and variable exposure to procedures due to factors like job position, location, and patient demographics. For instance, a dental resident's experience in root canals may range from five to seven procedures instead of the fifteen required for proficiency, leading to disparities in skill development. Extending residency programs to cover these gaps poses additional time, cost, and resource allocation burdens.  The XR Dental Simulator emerges as a game-changer in this scenario. At its core is BetaFlix’s proprietary data aggregation tool, BetaFlix Integrated Training System (BITS), which forms the backbone of an advanced learning ecosystem. This ecosystem employs a Multi-Modal System integrating innovative content, educational methodology, and conversational AI, enhanced by 3D models and immersive VR, AR, and XR experiences. The system connects to a learner dashboard and analytics platform, modernizing and personalizing the learning journey.  A key innovation in the XR Dental Simulator is applying haptic technology. This technology provides a realistic sense of touch, allowing trainees to experience the texture and resistance of dental tissues in a simulated environment. This feature is crucial in dentistry, where tactile skills are paramount.  The XR Dental Simulator stands to revolutionize dental education by providing equitable training opportunities. It ensures uniform exposure to various dental procedures, irrespective of a learner’s location or experience. This approach significantly enhances clinical efficiency, patient safety, and training accessibility while reducing costs and legal risks associated with clinical training.  The VR training market is largely confined to predoctoral programs and limited oral surgery applications. BetaFlix’s solution fills this gap, catering to postgraduate dental education and readiness training. The XR Dental Simulator is not just a technological advancement; it's a step towards consistent, comprehensive, and equitable dental training, preparing professionals for diverse clinical scenarios and ensuring a higher standard of patient care.     The BetaFlix-developed Dental XR Simulator presents a dual-use case opportunity for AFDS by fulfilling Defense needs (I.e., Dental training tailored to military code of conduct within the chain of command, etc.) and commercial needs (I.e., Certification programs, professional development courses, University collaborations etc.)
