Research abstract

The Fabrication Flight Aircraft Maintenance Trainer (FFAMT) is an AI-powered, immersive training solution designed to enhance maintenance readiness, reduce aircraft downtime, and improve sortie generation rates for the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC). Developed by BetaFlix Inc., FFAMT integrates Trusted AI, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) into the BetaFlix Integrated Training System (BITS) to create a structured, competency-based learning platform for Aircraft Structural Maintenance (2A7X3) and Metals Technology (2A7X1) Airmen. This system addresses skill gaps and standardizes training in aircraft fabrication, welding, and non-destructive inspection (NDI) procedures. The Phase II effort will refine FFAMT’s AI-driven assessment modules, 3D scanning, and model development to ensure accurate digital representations of B-52 aircraft components. The system will incorporate adaptive learning techniques, real-time skill tracking, and AI-guided performance evaluations, allowing Airmen to practice complex maintenance tasks in an interactive training environment before engaging in live aircraft operations. Key features include: high-fidelity VR scenarios for sheet metal and composite repairs, welding process monitoring tools, and integration with Columbus State Weld Tools (CSWT) analytics to validate trainee performance. Deliverables for Phase II include a fully functional VR prototype, immersive training modules aligned with USAF technical orders, and performance validation through end-user testing at Barksdale AFB’s 2nd, 5th, and 307th Bomb Wings. To ensure operational effectiveness, the system will undergo iterative development, user feedback integration, and testing to ensure operational effectiveness. FFAMT is designed for future scalability within USAF maintenance training pipelines and commercial expansion into the aviation MRO, construction, and industrial fabrication training markets.
