Research abstract

Advanced teaming of air launched effects (ALEs) will require an intuitive interface for soldiers to reduce cognitive overload and effectively command and control heterogeneous teams of ALEs, maintain a common operating picture (CoP) with rapidly changing situational awareness data, and manage various levels of autonomy. öPoint and clickö interfaces werenÆt made for these dynamic scenarios, and they donÆt provide the expressiveness required to truly collaborate with robotic teammates in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Primordial Labs proposes to leverage Anura, our voice-controlled autonomy software to provide a natural language interface for advanced teaming of ALEs within the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) portfolio of programs. Additionally, we propose to provide a hierarchical, fully modular team-level autonomy engine by scaling AnuraÆs Autonomous Mission Execution (AME) Engine to make it suitable for tasking teams of heterogeneous ALEs. Our approach is to enhance, package, and integrate AnuraÆs conversational human-machine interface (C-HMI) and AME Engine with the ArmyÆs Uncrewed Vehicle Control (UVC) architecture, a key component in the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) enterprise. Our Phase I will focus on a feasibility study to analyze technical approaches and develop an executable roadmap for Phase II prototyping.
