Research abstract

To meet DARPAÆs need for a long-range, low altitude parachute system, Alluvionic proposes the Ionic-propulsion Ram Air Parachute System (iRAPS) to substantially increase the glide ratio of existing wings. In this Phase I effort, Alluvionic will conduct research and development o determine if the ionic propulsion system be scaled to generate sufficient thrust to propel a gilder wing to meet the glide ratio requirements. The proposed enhanced ram-air parachute system epitomizes the confluence of advanced aerodynamics and cutting-edge propulsion technologies. By marrying the silent efficiency of ionic propulsion with innovative aerodynamic features, this blueprint promises to redefine the boundaries of what parachutes can achieve. The synthesis of these ideas augurs a future where flight distances are extended, operational ceilings are expanded, and the very essence of parachuting is reimagined.
