Research abstract

This technical abstract describes Kilsarĺs proposal to develop an augmented reality (AR) software solution called VIZE, which aims to improve the efficiency and safety of aircraft maintenance. The lack of experienced personnel and the general shortage of maintainers have resulted in costly maintenance and safety issues. Kilsarĺs VIZE solution, which integrates with wearable display technology, provides real-time communication and collaboration with remote specialists, allowing for faster maintenance resolution and reducing the need for personnel to travel to austere sites for inspections and repairs. The solution features an AI-enabled object detection system and AR tooling, improving the speed and quality with which maintainers can execute maintenance tasks. The project aims to improve the aircraft Mission Capable Rate by improving the Fix Rate and adherence to maintenance and safety standards, while also improving training and sustainability. The project aligns with the Air Force Science and Technology Strategy's strategic capabilities, including global persistent awareness, multi-domain command and control, and multi-capable airmen. The proposed solution utilizes various technologies, including machine learning, AI, IoT sensors/devices, and synthetic data-based algorithms.
