Research abstract

ĽAtomic Oxygen in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) erodes surfaces of satellites, increases drag, precludes active aero control ĽUltrathin sapphire coatings applied via ALD (atomic layer deposition) have the potential to reflect orbital Atomic Oxygen as opposed to absorbing it as traditional materials do This SBIR will explore the utility of a novel ultrathin sapphire as a protective coating and drag reduction method to support active aero control in LEO
