Research abstract

Kennon proposes to reduce the weight and bulk of the three 46-man life rafts carried aboard the C-17 Globemaster III. Kennon has spent the last decade honing manufacturing methods that allow for manufacture of ultra-lightweight and durable inflatable devices and staying on theĀcutting edge of flexible material technology. By using ultra-lightweight materials and novel manufacturing methods, Kennon proposes to reduce the weight and bulk of the life raft systems by up to 50% while offering increased safety and comfort to stranded airmen. The C-17 is a critical component of the Air ForceÆs Agile Combat Employment (ACE) initiative. Reducing the weight and bulk of necessary lifesaving equipment that will be on board every flight will allow for more capacity for mission critical cargo without sacrificing the safety of the crew of the aircraft.
