Research abstract

Today, the primary constraint on a spacecraft's operational duration is the quantity of onboard propellant, which is essential for enabling extended maneuvers in space. Given that in-space propulsion is the fundamental capability needed for deep space missions, meeting this requirement calls for an alternative material solution that goes beyond well-known in-space propulsion systems. Metamaterials that generate longitudinal Ampere tension forces are unknown by science today, since modern electrical equipment based on copper conductors does not generate significant longitudinal Ampere Tension forces. When powered by specialized power sources, metamaterials produce several forces that open new applications to revolutionize space travel. Field Propulsion Technologies Inc. has developed metamaterial composite conductors with properties that amplify the longitudinal Ampere Tension forces from an electric current. Following this breakthrough achievement, FPT Inc. is developing the first propellant-less thruster for the spacecraft. It is the only, patented and known working product for spacecraft propulsion, based on the interaction of electro-dynamic fields. This new solution generates propulsion from the interaction of motional electric fields from moving charged high resistance elements against the static electric fields of charged conductive elements. FPT Inc.ĺs propellant-less thruster could revolutionize in-space transportation and has a potential to disrupt the global spacecraft propulsion market of $19.74 billion by 2028.
