Research abstract

The team proposes to develop and demonstrateĀa high-speed delivery pod for compact cargo & UAV deployment capable of launching at speed of Mach 0.9. Our solution is an efficient delivery system for the long-range deployment of cargo, sensor packages & unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to a hostile environment. Capable of being launched from a multitude of aircrafts (including the F-35A), traveling at high-speeds. A final demonstration of a 2nd generation variant of the system will be performed during this project from an F-35A (or equivalent) at an altitude of 10,000ft, with an initial launch speed of up to Mach 0.9 or greater.ĀAddressing needs outlined in the U.S. Air Force Operational Imperatives for Tactical Air Dominance, Global Strike, and Resilient Basing (ability to resupply and tactically deploy assets for distributed forward operators) for air-launched high-speed cargo and asset delivery, the proposed system provides significant improvement over current technologies for high-speed cargo & payload delivery. As a solution, in collaboration with Air Force scientists, the team has developed a delivery system for deploying a UAV or secondary payload from larger aircraft traveling at high speeds in a region remote from the target region. the first-generation prototype uses a multi-stage deployment process that allows one or more UAVs to safely transition from one flight mode to the next in a secured and compact environment until the UAVs are deployed in the target region. They are then operated by a remote controller of an unmanned aerial system using wireless communication technologies.
