Research abstract

In support of mission readiness and the nation’s security early threat detection of adversarial missiles is being advanced with the use of Electro-Optical/Infra-Red sensor on monitoring satellite networks. Early threat detection is a key focus area for the Missile Defense Agency as well as prime contractors like Northrup Grumman who recently announced their push to develop and build Electro-Optical/Infra-Red systems for satellites in support of early threat detection. With this focus area a critical need arose, which was to support the Electro-Optical/Infra-Red system design with modeling information concerning radiation degradation effects. In successive Phase I efforts Nokomis has proven that unintended Radio Frequency emissions from electronic piece parts and systems can provide critical information about the degradation effects due to radiation exposure. Nokomis is expanding upon this completed work for the development of a Radiation Survivability Prediction modeling solution that will provide design engineers with a critical tool to better understand the tolerance and thresholds of failure for the Electro-Optical/Infra-Red system. Nokomis’ developed Radiation Survivability Prediction module will include information across several types of Infra-Red sensor materials and across various levels of radiation exposure.
