Research abstract

A critical need for fast response event-based visible wavelength and infrared (IR) cameras involving many Air Force and Space Force stakeholders as well as prime contractor companies has been identified. The current event-based camera technologies suffer from long latency and low array utilization rate, which makes them not suitable for many defense applications with dynamic scenes and requirements for fast response. Alphacore proposes to develop and deliver an event-based image sensor and a complete camera system that has low latency, high array utilization rate and extremely high timing accuracy. Alphacore has extensive experience in developing picosecond-level timing accuracy event-based readouts for pixelated detector arrays for high energy physics programs and these designs have been leveraged in the development of the novel architecture that significantly surpasses the capabilities of the current SoA sensors available for DoD. Alphacore will make the sensor and camera radiation hardened to allow use in space applications.
