Research abstract

Arctech Charge aims to develop a mobile, infrastructure agnostic, Battery Care Station with tailored Battery Care Profiles to support electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft testing and operations. Battery technology has allowed eVTOL to become a reality and a potential world-changing solution. However, battery technology is also the biggest limiting factor for eVTOL testing and operations to progress. Many groups are focused on developing new batteries, which is needed, but Arctech Charge is focused on another aspect of the problem – caring for batteries so they last as long as possible, perform better, pose less risk, and produce less waste. Dynamic Battery Care (i.e., battery charging, maintenance, management, and repurposing) presents opportunities to optimally tailor care for each battery and/or operation. By providing optimal care for each battery, eVTOL operations will be able to function with less downtime, equipment, risk, and waste – critical abilities for any military or commercial operation. The R&D Arctech Charge has outlined for this effort will build on the company’s patented technology to create a mobile, infrastructure agnostic, Battery Care Station to support Agility Prime and its partner LIFT Aircraft’s testing and operations. The Battery Care Station will feature two Battery Care Profiles, one focused on extending battery life cycles, and the other focused on charging as quickly and safely as possible.
