Research abstract

Barn Owl develops portable, rapidly deployable, cost-effective surveillance kits that empower Security Forces to detect and monitor threats along perimeters in remote areas. Barn Owl proposes to partner with Patrick SFB’s 45 SFS on a Phase II R&D project to develop new rapidly deployable, low-cost surveillance kits that enable secure, live-stream video surveillance over both commercial and private 4G/5G networks. Barn Owl’s solution will empower Security Forces with enhanced situational awareness and faster response times by leveraging AI to automate threat detection and alerting. The alerts will be automatically pushed to the end-users’ command and control platform of choice. Barn Owl’s kit will enable end-users to  rapidly deploy secure, high-bandwidth wireless 4G/5G networks in areas where commercial 4G/5G is not available. This will ensure the automated surveillance solution can cover 100% of both Patrick SFB and Cape Canaveral, a combined area of over 70 square miles. Overall, Barn Owl’s solution will reduce the costs of installing surveillance by over 90% per location by leveraging secure, high-speed wireless connectivity without the need for expensive and complicated infrastructure for power and connectivity. The project will validate a savings of at least $140,000 for each 10-camera deployment.
