Research abstract

Naval/Marine Corps flight simulators are sometimes used in isolation; however, there are growing requirements for distributed networked simulation, such as those included in the Aviation Distributed Virtual Training Environment (ADVTE). Interoperability of distributed systems is achieved only when the perception of the same events and models by different systems is similar; thus, enabling the linked warfighters to achieve a common goal by working together. However, this collaboration is dependent on the consistency between the synthetic environments. Today, aircraft simulators rely on manual inspection and spot checking to determine if the simulated environments are a match between networked simulators. Such testing is costly and incomplete. With this proposal, Dignitas describes a process to carry forward successful Phase II work on the Validate toolset into experimental testing of ADVTE system components to address automation and coverage of networked simulation interoperability testing. This effort will include iterations on Validate to improve and refine testing capabilities, on-site testing of ADVTE system components toĀbetter understand test effectiveness, establishmentĀof a geospatial correlation testbed, and capture of key interoperability issues found within ADVTE.
