Research abstract

The Phase II program continues developing and refining the Universal Digital-Analog Receiver and Translator, or U-DART, for the Trident II D5LE strategic weapons system (SWS).Ā The NavyÆs Trident missile manufacturers, Lockheed Martin Space (LMS), will assist Luna in designing, reviewing, and applying hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.Ā Luna will augment development from the Phase I design based on extended feedback from LMS to maximize the chances of successful testing in future programs.Ā First, Luna will work with LMS to define the Phase II requirements based on the cost, space, and power restrictions for the Trident platform.Ā A low-cost first-article prototype implemented with commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components will be produced for system-level validation and commercial demonstration by the end of the first year.Ā Refined second articles, with enhanced architecture for increased radiation hardness and platform compatibility, will be demonstrated by the end of the base period, along with a test plan for Phase III transition.Ā The option period focuses on integrating the U-DART system and assembling a complete U-DART system that is qualified to begin testing at a government facility.
