Research abstract

The Air Force has a need for the development of an advanced system for precise timing distribution and electronic event capture with nanosecond accuracy along the 10-mile-long Holloman High Speed Test Track, which conducts rocket sled tests. The new system will replace the outdated Timer-Programmer system by offering increased accuracy timing reference to all sensors distributed along the 10-mile track, regardless of their specific distance from the Track Data Center (TDC). Additionally, it will integrate various standalone systems, including sensors for sled velocity, position, meteorological variables, and high-speed cameras, into a unified mission control system. Within the TDC, control software will enable streamlined pre-test set-up and configuration, test execution, as well as post-test report generation and data analysis. Toyon’s solution will provide interfacing via Holloman’s existing copper wiring infrastructure, as well as longer term support through the inclusion of fiber Ethernet. The fiber solution will meet the need for precise timing by implementing IEEE 1588-2019 PTP as well as aim to completely network all sensors along the track for true remote control and data retrieval from the TDC.
