Research abstract

For this Phase II SBIR contract, GSS proposes a modified version of our Cinmea Pro + C520 Product line to be used as a low-cost aircraft tracking solution. GSS manufactures a 5-axis Gyro-stabilized gimbal for the commercial market space, which is often used on aircraft, vehicles, cables and various other platforms to produce perfectly stabilized imagery. GSS proposes a modification to our Cinema Pro + product line to allow for the following functionality: Integrated cool system for operation in 120° F environment indefinitely Allow for Proper focal length lenses to meet the customers requirements High speed drive motors to allow for near field aircraft tracking Air knife for clean front glass Simple integration with a variety of Gimbal pointing systems (i.e. coordinates from microwave) The final product will be a low cost/high performance Gyro Stabilized Camera system ideal for tracking aircraft take offs and landings. This new camera system can replace the existing L3 Brashere Infrastrucure which is no longer supported by the manufacturer. The camera system will consist of a weather-sealed housing with active cooling and the ability to interchange and or upgrade payloads (camera/lens/sensor). The stabilization performance far exceeds the current solution with ≤5 Micro Radian stability performance. The camera system can be controlled remotely and video transmission received over the current fiber network. Benefits to the Airforce would be a lower cost and easy to maintain aircraft tracking system, with outstanding stability performance incomparable to other solutions on the market. The camera system is portable which will expand the usage to mobile operations. Benefits to the commercial market include a cost-efficent, easy to implement and maintain long-range camera system that can be installed virtually anywhere for surveillance and monitoring of stationary or moving objects.
