Research abstract

Fourth State Communications’ Enhanced Thermo-Scatter System (ETSS) offers a robust, ground-based backhaul solution to support beyond-line-of-sight (BLoS) communications in contested or denied, degraded, intermittent, and limited (DDIL) scenarios. By integrating secure mobile apps, decentralized cellular nodes, and resilient backhaul architecture, ETSS reduces reliance on vulnerable satellite links while providing end-to-end encryption and multi-path data flow for mission-critical operations. This Phase II effort focuses on designing, testing, and documenting an advanced ETSS prototype capable of high-throughput, low-latency connectivity across dispersed or austere environments—supporting the Department of Defense’s evolving needs for resilient and cost-effective communications.
