Research abstract

Two sensor approaches, a Direct Replacement Design (DRD) and an Advanced Technology Design (ATD) are being developed and tested at the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. The DRD comprises of a well-tested scintillator based solution which can be integrated into the HECT systems without requiring further renovation, while the ATD offers a more sophisticated Scintillator-Cherenkov approach which offers potential performance benefits but would require additional HECT system retrofit. Each detector approach will be developed in parallel through the base phase effort. The option will enable the development of a full array of DRD or partial array of ATD after the Government has down selected.
