Research abstract

"Mentis Sciences Inc. proposes to develop a high temperature structural resistive foam (HTSRF) intended for various current and future Air Force Applications. Current, qualified structural foams are not rated for extreme environments >1500°F, and need to be replaced frequently due to ablation. This proposal presents an approach to design and develop a HTSRF that will meet application parameters defined by Lockheed Martin. Mentis proposes to refine a systematical approach for developing foams that can be tailored to defined applications. This approach will involve the design, characterization and manufacturing methods for developing new HTSRF foams. During the development process Mentis will evaluate various binders and foam constituents to select an appropriate formulation. At the completion of Phase II, Mentis plans to present the Air Force with a representative prototype that will be tested in relevant test conditions as well as outline a path forward for implementing new material into an Air Force system."
