Research abstract

Mentis Sciences (Mentis) has outlined a two-year program to flight qualify our MSIL 1311 Oxide / Oxide ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials. This program is a follow-on to our Phase II effort that was used to begin collecting basic material property data and process optimization for The MSIL 13XX family of materials. This program will leverage the materials, processes and hardware advancements being made under a current Phase III SBIR which is aimed at improving the performance and reducing risk at all stages of the manufacturing process of these materials. Under the proposed effort Mentis will be able to quantify the improvements in material performance and develop design allowables. These will be used to test (in a relevant laboratory environment) a Radio Frequency (RF) aperture and frame assembly. Following demonstration in the relevant environment the program will culminate in a hypersonic test bed flight which is intended to spur a milestone B decision.
