Research abstract

In this Phase II effort, Mimyr proposes to continue development and initial production of the Optimized Software Interpreter for Routing via Iridium Satellites (OSIRIS) system that has been validated and proven feasible in a successful Phase I effort. The goal of the program has changed since the Phase I proposal was awarded and the OSIRIS name is still used although Iridium satellites are no longer proposed. OSIRIS is a hardware network appliance unit that is able to combine a variety of commercial satellite and other wireless links into a single, transparent interface. This combined interface is then used by a platform or system to provide increased performance and reliability versus use of a single link. OSIRIS does the packaging and routing of data at a hardware level, which provides features and performance that operating system and application layer software solutions cannot. OSIRIS is ruggedized for use with Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) UAS platforms, and seamlessly integrates with any common physical layer terminals, allowing it to be immediately deployed by AFRL at the end of this Phase II effort.
