Research abstract

ABSTRACT:To meet the demands of the A141-245 SBIR solicitation, the MaXentric ) team proposes the GAM (Green Amp Multiplexer), which uses compact microwave circuit design and digital distortion compensation algorithm to expand bandwidths and reduce insertion losses of a multipaction-free multiplexer system for the global positioning system (GPS) block-III satellite. As a result of Phase I efforts, MaXentric proposed a concept of a compact multiplexer system consisting of planar multiplexer and multiple-band power amplifiers (PAs), which are integrated into one module. An additional concept was proposed to compensate for the imperfection of the multiplexer system, such as filter roll-off and PA non-linearity, through the use of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques. These innovative concepts enable the GPS multiplexer system to extend the bandwidths (up to 45 MHz) without sacrificing insertion losses (<0.5 dB).BENEFIT:A transmitter module including an RF multiplexer is an integral part of wireless communication system for satellite, cellular and radio applications. It represents one of the most expensive components in modern wireless equipment. It is important for system design to take into account all cost, physical size, and performance, such as linearity, efficiency, and output power. As transmitted waveform becomes more complex (e.g. high peak-to-average ratio, wide signal bandwidth, etc.), it is difficult for a conventional transmitter module, which consists of components designed separately, to meet the requirements of signal fidelity. The GAM solution is well suited to satisfy these requirements by designing the components together including RF multiplexer, RF power amplifier and DSP.Also an innovative DSP algorithm compensates the remaining imperfection of the RF components associate with the signal fidelity.
