Research abstract

Cornerstone Research Group Inc. (CRG) proposes to complete development and begin production of the isolation repair system previously developed in Phase I. This system will increase the readiness of Navy aircraft by decreasing the time needed to make necessary repairs. It will also limit repair costs associated with reworking inadequate repairs. CRG’s repair system will accomplish the goal of environmental containment yet still allow for easy repair. The product is comprised of a lightweight wire support structure that will easily conform to contoured surfaces and will collapse for easy storage. The system includes hand ports that allow passage of hands and materials into the containment system. The hand ports seal automatically, whether there is a hand present or not, without using any powered activation device, preventing dirt or dust to pass through while the repair is ongoing. The hand ports also allow the repair technician to use any gloves he/she desires, improving the dexterity and cleanliness of the repair environment. The system includes of method of introducing fabrics, resin, tools, and air lines into the repair area while minimizing contamination from airborne debris.
