Research abstract

The proposed SBIR will continue the development of a shock hardened data recorder intended to support penetrating weapons testing. McQ has defined a design approach for a Phase II program that will develop and refine the technical concepts based upon the prototype recording system developed in Phase I. During Phase I we designed, developed, fabricated, and tested a prototype recorder to demonstrate our capability to produce a product that met or exceeded customer requirements in terms of features and shock survivability. In Phase II we will use the prototype design as a springboard to achieve a refined designed that incorporates new customer requirements, such as additional enhanced analog acquisition channels, an integrated accelerometer, and expanded communications capabilities. The result will be a recorder that is ready for manufacture in large numbers. Using engineering and manufacturing techniques that are currently being used with our miniature disposable iScout™ sensor system and OmniSense® unattended ground sensor systems, we will develop and manufacture a quantity of these G-hardened recorders for delivery to the Air Force and demonstrate them during the Phase II effort.
