Research abstract

Triton Systems, Inc. responds to DARPA’s need to develop flexible thin-film transistors (TFTs) on flexible substrates for integration with other complex functionalities such as flexible memory, flexible waveguides and flexible photovoltaics to form conformal smart skins and multifunctional structures with built in signal processing and functional control circuitry for air and space applications. Our innovation consists of a unique dry-transfer process to create microstructured Si (ìs-Si) TFT structures on flexible substrates and two unique organic-based dielectric materials. During the proposed Phase II, Triton and its STTR partners will evaluate approaches to improve device mobility, and compare several different dielectric materials in order to generate a database of dielectric materials and their contribution to ìs-Si TFT performance. In the Phase II option, Triton’s team will work to extend the dielectric material development into carbon-nanotube-based TFT devices.
