Research abstract

In this STTR program, EIC Laboratories is teaming with the University of Florida (Prof. John Reynolds group) to design a new class of charge-transporting electronic polymers that exhibit a high degree of organization, leading to high charge mobilities. Furthermore, the structures will be highly crosslinked, which will make them tough and less prone to destruction by chemicals or in the space environment. The general approach is adaptable to a wide range of p-type and n-type charge transporting systems, and therefore is applicable to light emitting displays, photovoltaics and transistors. Phase I was successful in synthesizing and characterizing the first examples of these materials. Phase II will investigate their structure property relationships, fabricate and characterize devices on rigid and flexible substrates, and establish the effects of crosslinking on device stability in a simulated space environment.
